About Fern Gene

We are not selling you another test. We are extending the value of the data you already own.

Fern Gene is built for people who already tested, are planning for pregnancy, care about family history, or need longer-term medication and health guidance. We do not run sequencing. We pick up the value that starts after the raw file reaches your hands.

What we are building

We turn one sequencing event into a living family-health operating layer. Heavy data processing stays on local devices or desktop workflows whenever possible, while phones handle import, sync, and everyday review.

Keep the raw files with the user

The default path is not cloud upload. VCF, gVCF, BAM, and CRAM imports stay local, and the longer-lived object is a more compact encrypted profile.

  • The main phone path supports txt, VCF, gVCF, and .genomesprofile.
  • Heavier BAM, CRAM, and FASTQ workflows belong on desktop.
  • Cloud compute is opt-in only, with the minimum necessary payload.

Turn one report into long-term follow-through

Your genome changes very little. The interpretation, rule base, and life context keep changing. One import should keep growing new value instead of expiring after the first report.

  • The product prioritizes what matters first, then lets people go deeper into evidence.
  • Rule updates should refresh the encrypted profile, not force repeated raw-file imports.
  • Research leads do not become user-facing results until they are checked.

Build for family coordination, not just solo reading

A lot of real decisions are shared. Partner review, family history, caregiving, and pregnancy planning need a product shape that lasts longer than a one-time report.

  • Partner review does not require raw-file exchange between two people.
  • Family accounts are about risk coordination and follow-through, not social novelty.
  • Medication, pregnancy planning, family history, and elderly care can live in the same family context.

What is already live

17

live interpretation areas

Medication, health risk, hereditary disease, WGS specialty review, and nutrition are already visible to the user.

1185

production rules

Rule updates keep refreshing the local profile instead of freezing value at first import.

1116

content points

Import leads to concrete guidance, follow-up prompts, and explanation layers instead of an empty shell.

10

checked evidence sources

Public evidence has to be checked before it becomes consumer-facing content.

Boundaries and principles

  • Fern Gene is not a diagnostic system, does not replace clinicians, and is not for emergency decisions.
  • It is not used for insurance underwriting, pricing, or claims, and advisors do not see raw genetic results by default.
  • Research signals do not jump straight into consumer results. They are checked first, then turned into rules and output.
